Sports Therapy
To succeed in your sport, you want to get to the start at your peak. Injuries, fatigue, aches and pains will all severely disrupt training, fitness levels, affect you psychologically and could impair or stop participation.
Bodylab try to help you all the way, preventing injury to muscles, ligaments and tendons. During heavy periods of training, it aids recovery, reduces pain and refreshes muscles. Psychologically you’ll feel energised and confidence boosted. Should injuries arise, we’ll treat you rather than the symptom and help rehabilitate soft tissue and neuroligical dysfunction.
Chris also offers Pre-Event Massage to stimulate circulation, reduce nervous tension and help prepare the body and mind for optimal performance. Post-Event, the treatment changes focus to relieve soreness, assist the removal of lactic acid and other waste products from muscle tissue.
Sports Therapy is suitable if you are a sporty person or not. M
any clients just like the firmness of the touch, finding it great for a variety of aches, pains and strains.
Osteopathy
Andy Hodgson has practiced Traditional and Cranial Osteopathy for the Bodylab team for over 4 years. He is an ex runner and swimmer and now competes in Pentathlon.
Osteopathy views the body as a whole and attempts to
address the underlying causes of physical problems and pain.
An osteopath investigates why you are experiencing pain and prescribes treatment to encourage the body to use its own healing mechanisms. Osteopathy is a manual therapy – osteopaths have a highly developed sense of touch and incorporate a wide variety of movements such as massage techniques, stretches, articulations and manipulations to treat muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, the nervous system etc.
At your first session, you will be taken through a series of movements to assess movement quality and joint mobility, identifying possible sources of your condition. Andy's treatment then integrates traditional Osteopathy with Cranial Sacral techniques to nuture you back to normality.
Neuromuscular & Myofacial
Myofascial Release therapy, can be a light touch or deep tissue experience. It involves a mix of light stretching and slow massage strokes, without oils or creams. The principle MyoF is to stretch, loosen, soften and lengthen muscle by introducing ease to the fascia and tissue,a total release of muscle tension. It benefits those with poor posture, chronic fatigue, severe tension and anxiety, as well as repetitive strain injuries.
It can be used as a preventative method or to promote the healing of injured, stiff or painful muscles. Light to moderate traction and twisting may also be applied, to encourage a full reflex range of the muscle.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy, evokes a physical, physiological or energetic therapeutic response through the sense of smell and touch.
The therapist chooses a mixture of essential oils, specific to the client, blended in a 'carrier' oil and massaged into the body.
The combination of the aromas and touch encourage a deep feeling relaxation, peacefulness, and euphoria.
Some of the benficial properties of essential oils;
- Trigger emotional reactions - relax, invigorate
- Help skin conditions
- Relieve pain and can act as antiseptic on wounds
- Balance hormones
Aromatherapy should be used with great caution during pregnancy and particular in the first trimester, a consultation with a qualified therapist should be sought out before self-medicating. Advice should also be sought if it is to be used on and with children.
Indian Head Massage
Applying head massage clients report finding the treatment deeply calming and relaxing, leaving them feeling energised and revitalised and better able to concentrate. It aims to release the stress in the muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders.
The client will find an increase in joint mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders, it can be a great way of treating symptoms of fatigue, insomnia, headaches, migraine and sinusitis.
